Flipping rims for wider stance
#1
Hey.. got a question.
What is negative about flipping the wheels to gain some (alot) of width?
I know there is more bump steer, but my Zillas razors are flipped and it is great in the dunes.
Look at my picture page. The pic of my Zilla with paddles, (pic number 5) Enlarge the pic. Take a look at the fronts. You can see
the rims are DEEP. It has a VERY wide stance. Not only does it look awsome, it is more stable and
MUCH less roll prone.
I think im going to do this with my 250R. I unbolted a front, and flipped it around and it looks so much better.
(now I need to drill a new hole for the new stem, flip the old stem inside out ect)
Because this is positioning the front wheels farther OUT from the a-arm pivit point, Isnt this
creating more front end suspention travel? (also making the front suspention softer)
And no, I dont ride tight trails. Dunes only.

Some problems are: less protection for brake calipers and rotors, and much more stress on steering and suspension components than they were engineered for. In other words, brakes and breaks may go wrong.

i heard somewhere around here that the vavle stems can snap, not sure but thats what i heard. that 250r is so clean, thats what im building. im not gonna go all original, im going totally custom.

The valve stem hits the caliper. Take the tire off, drill a 3/8 hole inyour wheel opposite of the old stem.Go to yor local tire store get 4 valve stems, put one in each new hole. Take out the original stems and put the new ones in backwards with the caps inside the tires. Remount tires and go rail the dunes.

Highlifter.com has machined aluminum spacers -- 1" and 1-1/2" thick -- to give you a wider stance without some of the problems inherent in reversing the wheels. Not sure of the price -- seems like they were around $35 a wheel.
