my brother has a 99 honda trx 300 4x4 and was wondering if he could take the front driveshaft off to make it 2wd and put it back on if he needed. if this is possible how hard is it?

You could but you would have to remove your top and bottom a arms both sides to be able to pull your frount axels out of the diff. To get the diff to move ahead enough to pull the frount drive shaft out. At least a couple of hours because you will have to regrease the axel seals on the diff.

I don't think that the time spent would be worth the final product. Thats only my opinion.

It's neither worth the time or effort. Why would he want to make a 4wd quad a 2wd anyway?I certainly hope you dont write me back and say GAS MILAGE.Little,if any more gas milage would even be noticed.====BILL

I'll bet he'll write back and say speed. Why is everyone in seach of speed in a utility Quad?

Can someone answer this for me? If you want speed in a quad, why not by a sport bike, why buy a utility?

I need speed because i have over 20 miles of wide open logging roads to cover before i get to my hunting stand. I cant use a truck becasue the eco freaks closed the area. cant have a 400EX and also carry a bunch of supplys such as wood, bait, traps and not to mention the bear/elk/deer/ that i shoot I usally pull a trailler too. The 450S can go 50 tapped out, but that is like snales pace when you have so far to go. I can only hope that the rubicon can fill my needs, my friends kodiak sure does awesome (but it a yammie)

I know many folks who round up cattle all day in and day out on Honda 300 4X4's and don't complain they are "fighting" the machine.
Your brother may want to:
1. Buy a Rancher with less steering resistance.
2. Buy a Polaris with a 2WD/4WD selector switch, as you just did.
3. -Start a program of upper body conditioning and strengh work for his musculoskeletal system. You may want to put him to work loading and unloading square bales of hay. That is a very good exercise for the upper body, and most people who have livestock have a prerequisite of participating in this activity. You may also put him to work digging post holes, and stretching wire by himself. I found this not only strengthens you physically, but mentally to deal with other hardships, also.
Hope something there will help.

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone complain about fighting the 4x4 on a Honda.I would definately start pumping some iron.Is there possible something wrong with the front diff on the Honda to make it steer hard?====BILL
