250x
#3
I have a 1992 250X. It is 4 stroke,it is the same thing as a 300EX except the 250X is not electric start and the cylinder is board one size down from the 300EX.They board the 300EX out a litte more to compinsatate for the add'ed wait from the electric start.I think your best bet to get all the spec's it to call a honda shop near you.I recomend a 1992 because that is the last year they made the 250X you just have to be cairfull on what you buy.

You can check this site to find some specs on the 250X http://www.webspan.net/~rpfirley/index.htm Just click on ATV's and then select your machine.

Hey, quadmaniac, here is the scope.
1. 250x and 300ex are the same bike, suspension and frame wise. They both have the same amount of suspension travel front and rear. Look at some place like Rage Performance and every thing listed for a 300 is also listed (same model #'s) for the 250x.
2. The plastic is interchangable.
3. Both are four Strokes and gearing in the transmission is the same. The 250x is a 246cc and the 300ex is a 282cc.
4. The 300ex out weighs the 250x by about 25 lbs. The difference being the starter and battery.
5. The 250x is kick start. My 250x runs really well and will start on the first or second attempt when it's cold. First time every time when it's warm.
6. Go look at them, sit on them, then imagine putting the bikes in reverse. The 300ex requires the rider to seek help from at least teo bystanders and one other helpful soul to get the dern thing into reverse. The lever is buried under the seat, above the engine. The same issue is not as bad on a 250x, however the rider must reach down on the left side of the bike with the right hand while holding in the clutch. The rider on a 250x can learn to shift into reverse with a properly placed heal stroke on the left foot. I do believe someone makes an aftermarket shift lever for the 300ex, that helps with this issue.
7. Biggest differnce I found when looking to buy either one was price. 300ex's run about $1000-$1500 higher than a comparable 250x. Since I don't have an extra $1000 laying around I bought a 250x in great shape.
Good luck and look the machine over really well before you hand over any cash.
