250 thumper you need to decide what you want to do.If you want an all around trail bike thats alot of fun and little work, with reverse then buy a 300ex or a warrior or similar. If you want a race bike then by all means buy a 250r.If all that you want to do is go fast than the R is what you want. The 400 is a little faster then a 300 but a 250r is a whole lot faster than a 400.If you want a race bike STEP up to a R..don't bother with a 400.......

I cannot deny the success of the 250R and I am a fan but who wants to buy a 10 year old bike?

juventus,

I would love too put my (little)300EX up against your 400EX sometime. We can ride where-ever you want. Woods, track, trail, drag-racing, what-ever. And guess what. Sometimes you will be faster, and sometimes I will be faster. Point being....I'm not getting "bent out of shape" because you don't like a 300EX(that's your opinion), I am getting bent out of shape because your bending the truth and saying things that aren't true about the 300EX.

At the last AMA District 23 HareScramble race, I was the first 4-stroke quad in the holeshot(betten by 2 Banshee's around that 1st corner). And there were several built 400EX's, a 440EX and a DS650. Now it is possible that they all got bad starts, or maybe my "little" 300EX is faster than you think.....

As always, here's some pics to back it up.....

Enjoy.....

I would enjoy viewing your pictures if I could only get into the site...it's telling me access to the photo albums has expired. Maybe those photos don't exist

PS. You were the 1st 4 stroke to the 1st corner how did it go after that? did the other larger machines catch you?

Juventus,
Maybe you can't operate machines very well. I loaded those pictures, first try, no problems.

250Thumper,

Buy what you know you can handle. Ride the type of trails you like. A 400ex will be a good investment for your future riding/racing, assuming you don't kill yourself riding before then. A 300ex will do more like 55mph stock and may be easy and safer for you to handle right now. There are advantages in both bikes, weigh to options and get one. Ride it and ride it hard, learn what you like about the quad. Then take what you have learned and if needed buy a new bike or build the one you have, to suit whatever additional needs you develop. I gaurantee in the future you will be buying another new quad anyway, plan on it.

juventus,

The pics should work. Maybe try it again later or something.

After the holeshot, there was about a mile of MX track(with tabletops and medium jumps), before some steep uphill climbs(with a triple jump) that led into the first woods section.
I passed a banshee on the MX track(moving into 2nd), then got passed back by the same banshee on the hillclimbs.
The enterance too the woods was tight, and the DS and I hit each other going for the same position.(he must have closed the distance on the hillclimbs) I was knocked into the woods where I flipped and damaged my machine. The DS continued on, but got stuck in a technical part of the woods section(he was too wide).
Damage too my quad included a torn off right handlebar grip, bent front brake lever, and my throttle controls were loose. So loose, that when I operated the throttle, it would swing freely around the handlebars.
I was pretty much out of the race. But I continued on and recieved a 20th place overall finish out of 34 riders.

All of this action was on the MX track and open hillclimbs. Where Banshee's and DS's should excel. We weren't even in the tight woods sections where a 300EX is at it's best.
I can't wait till the next race.

I just want too make some points.......
I really like the 300EX and 400EX. Both are great quads and perform excellent in all conditions.

You can have the perfect quad, but it is still only as good as the rider.
Power is nothing without control.

Cstark: I beleive that you beat all those quads, but your 300ex isnt that little w/ all the modifying youve done. I read some where back in the performance forum where you had porting, boring, cam, vavle springs ect.. how much did you spend on this? Couldnt you just have bought a 400ex for almost the same price?

250Thumper,

You are right. For the money that I have spent on up-grading my 300EX. I could have bought a 400EX for less money.
My brother has a 400EX with a WB E-series pipe, vented airbox and K&N filter. We ride together a lot, and switch rides very often. His ride is very, very nice. But what it boils down too is.....I am just more comfortable on the 300EX. It's smaller size is perfect for me. I can man-handle the quad, where-ever I want, and when-ever I want.
He gets so mad, because my little 300 can blow the doors off his 400. He has a few more mph on top than I do. But we don't ride many places where you can open them up that much.
And it's also nice too have reverse. We trail ride a lot, and I use in during my HareScramble races sometimes when I get off of the beaten path.

I used too own a 250X before the purchase of the 300EX. So that probaly swayed my decession alittle bit too.

My roommate has a 87' 250r. It's fun to switch from riding a 300EX, to a 400EX, to a 250r, all in the same day. They all have strong and weak points. Just pick the quad that fits you best.
