Will Rincon fit in Z71?
#11
Hey schef,
That's a great little setup you got there. How tall is the ramp portion? I have been hauling mine with the gate open and am thinking I should make one of those... Great thinking!

Hey toomanyhobbies... it will fit if you prop the front end up under the tires
using a couple 2x6's on top of eachother so the quad sits at an angle in the bed
I have a Suzuki Vinson and a Z71 short bed. The tailgate would not close unless
I "angled" the quad so the front end was higher toward the cab. This gave it
an extra couple inches of room so the gate would close. Just be careful about
the rear window glass. Make sure you dont have anything sticking out front of
the Rincon that could hit the glass. You will need to tie it down also so that it
does not hit the glass on a hard stop with your truck. Hope this helps!!!TextText

Thanks. I will try and get some blueprints drawn up tomorrow showing everything.
As for backing the rincon on, I personally do not feel comfortable backing up a set of ramps into a truck (are you taking a bed liner into account nick?). I feel a forward approach is a much better/safer way to go (in my case that is). I also refuse to believe that it will work backing it on. 84" is 84" no matter how you turn it. I have not tried it on my truck, but I will have to see to believe I would try it and post images of what I find, but my camera is currently half way across the country

Yes, I take the bed liner into account, I back up the ramps with half of a 27" claw hanging of either side it's really not that hard. Why is it harder to back up the ramp then backing down, I just full forward down the ramps. And 84" is 84" but with it pullen in forward you will have to watch for the nose hitting the glass before the tires hit the front of the bed, backed in the back tires hit the front of the bed and the back rack is nowhere close to the glass, get off and shut the gait. If the gait will not shut pull onto the gait and place a piece of wood 2x6 or something where each front tire will go inside the bed so the nose is lifted high enough to not hit the plastic guard on the tail gait. I have ramps with a tiedown type of strap that I hook to the tow package loops for trailer hooks so the ramps are not going anywhere, just give it a shot and tell me if it works because it should.

Nick:
I think you are on the wrong page (or book for that matter) in this instance. Please look at the nose of the Rincon. Here is a picture to help you out. You stated that "with it pullen in forward you will have to watch for the nose hitting the glass before the tires hit the front of the bed". That may be the case on your Rubicon but it isn't the case with the Rincon. The Rincon's nose will touch the bed long before the tires get close. I tried this today just to verify and even the lugs on my 589's were nowhere close to touching the bed before the nose hit the bed. On another note, the nose hits just above (1/4") the top of the skid plate. So it would be very possible to haul the quad around without shattering your window (if you drive sensibly or strap the quad down if you don't). I also stand by my fact that the Rincon will not fit backed into the bed. I tried this today as well and it did not with about 2 inches too much. I did however have my 589's on though so I will wait until things dry up and I get my camera back to show proof of what I expect to find. However the 589's do not seem to make much difference so I suspect there will be little change. The limiting factor is the nose and rear wheels. Not the front wheels and rear wheels. For this reason it does not matter which way you back it on, but I will post photos when the time is right. Maybe I am mistaken and I will admit if I am, but I will put money on the fact that I am not.
Now onto the diagram of my "ramp". I was a little late getting this on (sorry) but there was a little storm here in south Texas if you haven't heard... and well I had to go play in it I drew it up in my CAD program as to have a little better angles of it (remember my camera is in the shop). Below you will find 3 images of various angles. The thicker boards are 2x6's and there is one sheet of half inch plywood on top. You may also want to reinforce the arms with a metal brace (I did) but it is not needed unless after extensive use:

It was not until my last post that I noticed you were running 27" tires. I said that the bike should still fit, not that it definately would. I have seen a rinny with 26" 589's and C-series wheels fit into a Chevy shortwide backwards with the gait shut but not forward. I will not argue about all of this because you have already tried and it will not possibly fit. I want a small trailer even though my bike fits cause its just easier and I won't have to worry about the gait shutting, busted glass, and thatkind of stuff anyway.

i have a 2003 Z71 xtendedcab shortbed and a rubicon and it will not fit, because of the roller fairlead for the winch. the tailgate is only and inch or so from closing. that is forward i havnt tried backward but i dont think it will that way either. just gonna have to get a bigger trailer for four bikes, gotta go lotsa riddin ta do woooooooooooo
