Open up the air box, get a good aftermarket filter(k&n), replace the main jet with a 130 through 135 depending on you're area, richen the needle one clip, buy a 14 tooth front sprocket, and if you can afford an additional $70 have you're stock cdi moddified to remove the rev limiter. It will only cost you about $65 for everything besides the cdi mod. What kind of pipe do you have? Also remove as much of the non needed stock stuff as possible to save some weight. Like the parking prake and cable, tool kit holder, etc. I've cut usless brackets off the swing arm and frame, i saved about 7lb. doing that.

You're pipe will give the motor some extra rpm's but since the 300's rev limiter is kinda on the low side you never get to use any of those rpm's. But with no rev limiter you can damage the engine if you over rev it too much.(keeping it WOT in 1st).

I find that the 300 is geared low. Before i switched sprockets, i would shift into 1st nail the gas and have to shift within 10-15 ft. the 14t makes every gear pull longer and increases the topend. If you find yourself using first gear at low rpm often then you probaly don't want to switch. However i have ridden in the tightest of dear trails with hardly a trace of a path and have not found this gearing to be to tall.

Gecko-
Its not bad-it sounds great-but the only thing is I bought the 300ex with the pipe, so I dont really have much of an idea of what kind of power increase it had, what it sounded like before, etc.
its one of those adjustable ones, with the disks-I havent fooled around with it at all.
The guy I bought it from paid 250 for it, maybe that will help.

Im also wondering the same thing ive got a 300ex with an FMF powercore pipe. What does the discs do and does removing them gain anything and if i do, does it need to be rejetted cause it seems to bust out with them off.
How do you remove the revlimiter or is it built into the cdi box and by that you mean buy a new one?
