I'm removing the swingarm to re-grease everything but the pivot bolt won't come out. It turns relatively easy but I can't seem to get it to slide at all. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

You may have to peck on the end of the bolt with the threads using a blunt object. Of course, use an object that is a smaller diameter than the bolt so you will not damage the threads. It should peck out pretty easily. When you put it back together, you may have to get someone to sit on the rear of your ride to align the bolt hole up. Note: according to the maintenance manual, the bolt only tightens to about 16-18 ft. lbs.. Overtightening will cause bearing failure! Use some sort of threadlocker also. Been there..Done that. Hope this helps!

-bye the way-how do you like those dominators?

Gary,

I am looking at Honda's service manual right now (13-14). You stated 16-18 ft. lbs. (is lbf-ft and ft lbs. the same?) The book states 80 lbf-ft.

CMCHONDA,

If you don't have a service manual, spend the $40 and get one. Wouldn't want your back end falling off.

I am new to all of this, just bought my quad about two weeks ago, so maybe Gary has an edge up on me. Gary...check it out again and correct me if I am wrong. Thanks and hope this helps.

I have a service manual also. If your service manual says it should slide right out, and it will not slide right out, you have big problems! Just kidding! I'll check my manual on those numbers again when I get home.

Thanks for the help so far. I do have the Honda manual at the house but it just said remove the pivot bolt. I left the nut on the end of the threads and hit it pretty hard 5 or 6 times with a ballpeen but it didn't budge.

had the same problem with a friends 400ex. had to place a jack under the bike, lift it up(unloads swingarm) by the way, the shock is removed, right? then used a smaller diameter brass rod(punch) and tapped the pin right out. it was actuall tougher getting it back in. good luck.
