adjusting 300EX suspension
#2
There is no damping (rebound or compression) adjustment on the 300. Still, the stock settings are pretty good for the average rider.
You CAN adjust PRELOAD (20% sag in front/30% in rear with the rider sitting on the bike in full riding gear). Place the bike on a stand so you unweight the suspension, then just turn the collars. There are notches on the collar. Go to a higher notch to increase preload, and a lower one to decrease. The front is easy to get to, and the back is a real pain!! I have about 5 different shock wrenches, and sometimes I have to use all 5 to get a shock adjusted.

yeah the back is a pain in the but to adjust, i ended up using a falthead screwdriver and a BFH (Big F***in Hammer) adjust the preload will stiffen or soften the springs to adjust for rider weight.....the change in handling is unoticable unless your really picky, when you catch air the shocks wont bottom out as easily on stiffer settings, but the differance is small.

To little preload and the bike will be mushy. To much and it will be stiff. There are some good articles on the net on how to adjust suspension. I will try to find them and post the link.
