trx 250r crate motor?
#1
i am thinking of starting a 250r project... i was wondering if anyone knew whether there were stock 250r crate motors available anywhere. I want a quad that will turn heads, will i be able to do that with a ct 310 kit? or should i go up to the 330 kit, i want reliability, durability and longevity. Will i be able to beat some banshees and 400's and raptors with the 310 or should i go with the 330? i ask this b/c i would prefer not to have to get all the machining done, and the price difference is expensive as well...i am lookin for some help!! help me! thanks for the info and pointers in advance

Look on ebay, they pop up all the time. I got an absolutely mint R engine, less that 5 hours on it for $700.
I didn't even start it. I took it apart looked it over. It was immaculate. I put an ESR 310 on it with a 89 clutch updater and some polished clutch and stator covers. A CFM exhaust flange and some clear radiator hoses. Looks sharp.
With a 310 your should be able to beat most piped banshees and raptors. So far the only thing that I have come up against that has beat me is a 686 craycraft raptor. If you want to play with heavily modded machines a 330 or 350 might be in order but I am really happy with the 310.

no reason paying 2400 bucks for a 250r crate motor just to take it all apart again. Do like 250rob did and find a good solid bottom end for 700 bucks. If need be put 200-300 bucks in the bottom end to strengthen it up (clutch basket, clutch pusher if needed, ect) and have just as good of an engine for 1400 bucks less.
