400ex question...overheating
#1
Hey, I plan on buying a 400ex soon and was wondering if a lot of you guys run air scoops on it...if so what kind do you think is good OMF or PRM...or is there another good brand? I dont want it to over heat but i dont want to do a lot of internal work like oil coolers and such. So if you could tell me what you guys do? Do any of you guys use those scoops? use a certain kind of oil? anything else? and how many of you guys actually have had overheating problems? Thanx a lot guys. I appreciate any input.

I run OMF, fans in front of my oil cooler and mobil 1 synthetic with heavy clutch springs. The oil helped the most. You should check out the FST oild cooler kit, looks like it would help alot, I may get me one of those.

I never had any overheating problems. Ran it in the middle of summer, too. I did, however, put on some OMF scoops, and added an oversized oil reservoir, as well. I also run Mobil 1 synthetic, which, supposedly helps it run cooler. Running cooler means more power.

Lick my nuts, stockrappy. You always talk sh*t. All this guys does is jacks off to kiddy **** and talks sh*t on ATVCONNECTION.COM all day long. There's a life out side of your computer. Have you ever seen daylight?
If you have any motor mods on your ex, then I would run a second oil cooler. Good oil and a bigger oil tank does help alot. I use LUCAS OIL STABLIZER with Castro GPS. I swear by this stuff.

LMAO yeah i agree, you may want to go to the yamaha forum and figure out why the raptors can't keep the carbs from falling off.
by the way, i also use mobil 1 with good success. i think overheating might occur riding is trails at really slow speeds where you are constantly on and off the clutch. from what i hear, the scoops won't cool the bike down much. you need to be moving for air to get through the scoops in the first place. most scoops are very similar. i would get whatever you can get the best deal on. good luck

I have never had a problem with my ex overheating. The only time it gets pretty warm is when i am really reving the engine up. I don't have any scoops, oil coolers or any of that stuff. Just stock oil cooling system.
