A XR100 would be to small and under powered for you, I would check out a CRF230. Its not that expensive and it has electric start, oh the power of that little button...
The CRF230 is a 4 stroke also. I wouldn't recommend a 125 2 stroke, might be a little much for a newbie.

For your first dirt bike, don't buy new. Check the local ads for a 4 stroke in the 200cc range, the prices are well within your budget for one that's just a couple of years old. Unless it was wrecked, it's pretty hard to ruin a 4 stroke dirt bike. I grew up on dirt bikes and started my boys on 4 strokes, keep the oil topped off and the air filter clean, they will last forever. A 100cc machine will be way too small for you.

Like the others said the XR100 is going to be to small for you. With $2200 you could buy a very nice used Honda, just take your time looking. If you don't like buying used & must go Honda I would reccomend saving a bit more and getting the CRF150.Still not a big bike but not as small as the 100.

Just my 2 cents, but as a dirtbike rider from the age of 8, I would say definitely go with the four stroke 200cc. BUT, make sure you are getting a really low mileage bike for $2400! I have ridden a crapload of bikes over the last (hmmh) years and the xr-200 is my favorite all around bike.
By the way, if anyone has one around the nw for a reasonable price, I wouldn't mind picking another one up.
I love my quad and my 2 wheeler and I start my boys on the dirt bikes first. When they get the hang of 2 wheels, they can go on to 4. It works
Anyhoo, have fun, good luck, go with the four stroke to begin with!
Cheers!
