xr100r??? good or bad???
Buy the XR200 but try to get the price down a little, I paid $3000 OTD for one in 2001 and the retail price didn't go up for 2002. Unless it's in PERFECT condition, I'd try to get it for $2000. I sold my son's 2001 on ebay for $1600 this Spring so he could upgrade to a 2 stroke MX machine. The XR200 is an awesome trail bike, enough grunt for low speed riding but still enough power to keep up on the powerlines. There are aftermarket performance exhausts for the XR200 that can add a few more HP. My son in 6' and 190lbs, he could clear doubles and tabletops on the XR200, the suspension is pretty darned good for a trail machine. I don't recommend a 2 stroke for anyone's first dirt bike.

The XR-100 is a great starter bike. They are absolutely indestructible. Mine's been wrecked countless times on dirt AND pavement. The person riding usually got a lot more beat up than the bike. And they require virtually no maintenance to keep them running. I'm not saying that you shouldn't change the oil and adjust the chain regularly, but they CAN go without it. We've had ours since 2001 and never changed the oil. It's still gold colored. It's a lot lighter than something like the TT-R 125 and handles a more precisely while not being too much slower. And it's also QUIET, which seems to be increasingly important these days.
