Does anyone know I can get a gas gauge and speedometer for my Recon? I have looked around but haven't seen anything. Any suggestions?

Greetings,

No suggestions, but I want a speedometer too. And while we're at it, it would be great to have a gear indicator. Anyone know where to get one of those?

I too am looking for a speedometer for a Recon. If you notice the wiring diagram in the back of the Recon's owners manual it show a speedo as an option.

There have been several posts where people took bicycle speedo's & put them on ATV's.

I'd like one too, but Honda's factory thing (with hr meter & odometer I think) is around $240 from Service Honda. I much prefer using factory stuff and the hr meter would be nice for periodic maintenance but that's pretty steep. There's also an "alarm" kit in their wiring diagram which is the oil temp sensor & the light which goes in that blank spot on your "dash", but I think Service Honda's quote of $15 or so must be an error since it looks like it also involves a wiring harness of some kind. (To connect to and cycle a fan?) I'd almost prefer that first--our Rancher has cycled the cooling fan at least once during low speed exploring and it hasn't really gotten hot here yet, and I wonder what's going on with the Recon's engine. I'd need an oil cooler to go with that but not sure if the Rancher's could be adapted without tapping holes, and no doubt the factory set-up would be expensive. If anybody knows of a quality factory or aftermarket cooler deal I'd appreciate it. They're about broken in and they'll be getting Mobil 1 but still...
And a gear indicator would be nice--guess we're spoiled by the ES on the Rancher.

I did add an hour meter to mine when I bought it new in 97. It makes maintainence a lot eaiser. I got one at the auto parts store and put in the rear box with the tool kit. There are holes that go thru to the battery area run your wires there and put ground to the battery then look at the end of the wiring harness, remove the small piece of tape and there is one wire under it(I don't recall the color but it's the only one under the tape) that is powered only when the key is on, hook up your hot wire and your done! Took me about 15 min. total. I just wrap it in a rag to keep it from banging around.
