ELF stands for Earth Liberation Front. Terrorist organization of hippy ***** that go around and burn down labs doing research they disagree with.

I'm surprised to see someone finally mention the rotary engine here. It would be a very logical and huge step forward as a developmental platform in small engine use. They used to run them in Arctic Cat sleds many moons ago (303 Wankel). Very few moving parts, easy to rebuild, rpm capability unheard of in up-and-down piston engines, compact size for low center of gravity. Now and then you'll see a Mazda rotary engine buggy, look closer and you'll notice a small engine going like hell and the guy never has to shift.

can some one please clue me in on what the fuss is about???

i know its an enviromental issue i just cant see why its an issue at all,

here in the uk we have emissions standards but they only aply to road vehicles, and most people would agree that the most ecologicaly sound vehicles on the road are motorcycles and scooters

and yes the scooters are all 2 stokers,

i know your country is vast and so is its population but surely recreational atv/mx bikes and other 2 stroke is a tiny minority

compared to the continuous polution from cars powerstations and other industries,

i just cant believe that the good people of the usa are putting up with this bull$hit and politions are pushing all this tree huggie political correctness bull,

all that "we care about the environment" makes me laugh, what a joke,

off road vehicles are not the real issue,

just my 02p worth

i always thought you guys had it so good over there, over here as rar as offroading goes the issue is land access,

Good points, UK. The environmentalist wacko left in the USA is not worried about what THEY want to do with the land, or the total pollutants that a tiny minority of ORV's produce that THEY will breathe, it is just a well-selling political grabhold to promote their socialist agenda of an all-powerful centralized government.

People wonder what THEY want with the sand dunes? Absolutely nothing, of course. They just don't want YOU to have any rights.

At least we have the pleasure of watching the economic collapse of that great leftist experiment known as California.

And sorry to all of my California friends, I take no pleasure in your personal situation, just speaking collectively over the political climate that has produced such carnage.

everyone know's that two strokes rule on the tracks. maybe a person that doesn't know how to drive a two stroke will have quicker lap times on a four stroke with twice the cc's but any rider with two stroke experience is gunna be faster on the buzzer. when you equip a two stroke with a power valve it will make good power from the bottom to the top. When it is possible to mod any thumper as fast as a 540 banshee someone please let me know. And it would be he!! trying to work on one of the new high tech thumpers. Ridley the four stroke will never take the two stroke's place at the tracks and in the dunes.

showstopper: ANY engine can seize if its not tuned right. Mt friend has an older XR200. It seized on him on the beach, and dont pull that weak @ss bullsh!t that he doesnt know how to ride either, cause he does. My KX85, got it in 2000, completely stock, NEVER had ANY engine problems with it. What would you say if you saw a 4 stroke seized up on the trail? Say he doesnt know how to ride? Make some lame@ss excuse or what?

the dunes in Florida were shut down for the d@mn turtles! There was some pretty sick riding out there too, d@amn turtles...
