Do you guys have any special tricks or products you use to remove scratches in plastic?

This will not remove scratches but it will hide them, take STP Sun of a Gun spray and spray it all over your plastic and let it dry off itself.

There is a product that is available, called Plastic Renu. It works wonders, and will bring your Quad back to a showroom shine.
It is a kit that contains two compounds, first you lightly sand the area with 80 grit sand paper, then apply the first compound and let dry.
Steel Wool is then used to smooth the area, and then apply the second compound and buff to a shine.
Quite a few of the Dealers around here use this product frequently on the used bikes/Quads that come in.
It retails for $29.99 Cdn.

I don't think I could bring myself to take sandpaper to my new 400ex! I just couldn't do it!

You could test it in a hard-to-see spot, just to make sure that it worked...

I scratched up my new Recon, will this plastic renew help this look better? I accidently scraped a gas can against the back under the rack. Really looks bad to me, but I just got the bike and anything would look bad.

Well my Quad is new as well, so therefore, I haven't used it personally, but I know a guy who has a new Honda 650, and hit a deer with it on the highway. He took quite a spill, and the bike was a real mess. He bought the Plastic Renu, for the tank, and it looks brand new.
Thats when I did my homework on the product, by asking the local dealers, and they say it is awesome, works like a charm.

some other people that have used it and said that after the stuff you put on after you sand it will come off after a few washes. I am not trying to say that it is not good and i never used it or know some body that has but from this forum and others in the long term it might leav it dull.

You could be right 250r, I'm not sure about the long term.
I guess it's up to the individual to decide, but I've seen it work, and I'm sold on the product.
It will only be a matter of time before my Quad will need a face lift, and I'll give it a try.
