I know there have been other discussions about this, but I was still not clear what the general feeling was....I lean toward Valvoline...I hear Pennzoil and Quaker State suck....there have been several votes for Castrol GTX....what are you guys using in your machines. I was told that the Honda brand was a waste of money....my dealer told me that once I decide on a brand however to always stick with that same kind.

 

honda oil is what was in there from the factory so why would u change brands? i always use honda oil and i have never had one problem

 

B/C Honda oil is about twice as much and my dealer said it was not neccessary. I can't see paying for this when I don't have to. But to each his own...if you feel better putting Honda Oil in, thats cool, but I wanna know what others are doing...I have one vote for Honda Oil...If everyone is doing that, that I probably will too, but I don't think many guys use factory oil cause of the coat difference...especially if you change oil a lot...

 

i use honda oil in my 400ex and my wifes 250ex. i haven't had a problem.

Honda GN4 is good oil. Mobile Oil blends it to Honda’s specs. It is really regular Mobile engine oil. It however does have a SF/SG rating and it is hard to find oils that still have those ratings. Most every oil has the newer SL/SJ rating.

I have switched from Valvoline All Climate 10w40 to Valvoline 4-stroke ATV 10w40 Oil in both our Honda's. It has the SF/SG rating Honda recommends plus friction modifiers for the clutch. $2 qt.

 

Citgo also makes it for Honda. Honda farms out all there chemical and lube products for production. Plane and simple, "OIL IS OIL" . How do I know? I worked for Citgo for over 10 years and was a Blender/Coumpounder (the guy who makes the oil). Take it for what it's worth...

Best oil.. i would vote for AMS OIL 0-40 ATV oil it's good stuff expensive but the best..

 

I use Honda GN-4. How can meney be an issue when the 250EX only takes a quart and a half? So, you pay $10 instead of $6. Big deal. But Yamalube is good oil too.
