How much hp does a stock 86 on.. TRX 250 R have?

 

I think about 26

 

ive been told that word around honda and they advertised it that it had 40hp- probably at the crank most likely. The 86 is the fastest year of the TRX250R despite what others tell you. the engine was taken straight from the ATC which means they didnt jack with it to 'tune it for quad use.'
86 was the only year of the short rod engine (this changed in 87), it had more of a pronounced powerband "hit," and it revved faster than the later years', and had slightly taller transmission gearing on the uppermost gears. Mine has smoked other year Rs easily.

 

before anyone throws a fit over the 40hp thing remember - that figure is AT THE CRANK.

 

Yeah, I was meaning about 26 HP at the rear wheels

i could live with the 33rwhp figure. i think about 20% is lost quad drivelines, so can we say:

40/5 (where 5 is 20% (5x20=100)) = 8 hp loss

40 - 8 = 32hp

 

Ok but who has a stock 250r? Pipe, carb, reed's, air filter, porting ect...
even a small change in a two stroke will make a big difference in hp.
ie.. a properly jetted quad will beat the pants off a poorly jetted one.

but all of this has been said before.
