Default 440 EX reliable??

I am planning to buy a 400 EX. My brother in laws dealer just got in a 2000 400EX that was just freshly made into a 440 EX, that I can probably get for a lil under 3 grand. I was wondering if they are reliable enough for this price, or should I pass it up and just get a regular 400EX? what are the pros and cons of buying a quad already bored out and a has cam put in? any suggestions would be appreciated. thank you

The 89.5mm big bore, or bigger can start losing head gaskets over 11to 1 compression. Most kits are10.5 or 11to 1 so it should be fine. The 440 is way worth any gamble of a gasket, so go for it.
