300ex shocks: Best setting for jumping?
#1
Just wanted to know how you guys have your shocks set for jumping (5ft high & 15-20ft in length to bottem my ex out)? By adjusted the shocks for jumping does this affect casual trail riding. In other words do you lose all the luxury of honda great suspension that is needed for whoops and bumps that are common in most trails? Do I need to adjust the shocks up or down?
Thanks,
Chris

I have my factory 300ex shocks set on the second to softest spot and they are great soft in the rough stuff but don't bottom I have only bottomed once in the front. in the rear I had to remove the airbox and tighten the big nut a little I bottomed on everything in the rear and I haven't really noticed the changed position in the slow stuff but when I jump big it doesn't bottom either so I have found the perfect setting. weight has a lot to do with it to I wiegh 135 so I am light.

umm.....stiffer is better in the back....to much bottoming out and i found out you can destroy the shock (i guess you can wreck anything if ya try hard enough! what my one did was push the rubber thing on the shaft hard against the seal and shock body at the top, well this is what we think happened, pushing the seal away that holds the oil that gave the shock the dampening effect on the rebound....so my bike ended up as a po-go-stick! and i found the shock was not rebuildable...we didn't know anyone who could do it!)
run with what is comfortable with you....if ya wanna fly maybe some aftermarket ones would be the go....but they ain't cheap!
i weigh 177pounds (i am 90kg....i work in metric...hope the conversion is right! that hasn't worked out as a fat man has it! i have a gut not a big one though)....front shocks are is hard as they will go for general trial riding....farm work is one notch back on that big nut on the front shock.....back was as hard as it would go....before i had to replace it!
good luck, go hard
