This isn't much help but I have heard of a few other people having the same problem, its just that I have never heard what had caused it or the fix. Try doing a search on it and see if anything comes up.

Thanks for the info. My problem is that I had just got done riding it about five miles-not hard or rough riding. Just gravel roading. Started up and put it in reverse to align myself for the ramps for the truck and when I went to neutral it would no longer go to first. My problem is the same as the guys above because it won't go into gear manually any more either. Change angle sensor and still getting eight flashes. Didn't give any signs that it was about to let me down-always pulled itself perfect-just surprised that it went without no warning and I'm trying to figure out what the eight flashes mean.

Thanks,

Toddsavage

The Haynes manual for my Foreman, which is also an ES model gives the following diagnostic codes:
Turn ignition on, then off, then back on
Flashes at gear position indicator::
0 system normal
1 ECU
2 shift switch
3 angle sensor
4 gear position switch
5 ECU motor (defective ECU)
6 ECU failsafe relay
7 ECU voltage converter circuit (defective ECU)
8 angle sensor, control motor or ECU
9 angle sensor or ECU
10 pulse generator
11 speed sensor or ECU
12 gear position switch or ECU

I hope this helps.

Have you shifted manually more than once and then went to neutral, reverse, and tried to go forward again? Because I did that twice and now I can' shift manually at all.

Hey guys took mine to the Honda Dealer yesterday. Might be some good news-says it's something mechanically not electronically. Said that he got a leaflet on it and it must be something like a recall sorta, but at this time if he tears it apart and that's what it is Honda will pay for it. Didn't know if the other guys on here got theirs fixed for free or not, but might want to check into it if was same thing wrong with theirs.
