Is ATV Action out of the loop on the 450R?
#1
Hey all,
I just got my new ATV Action and there was nothing about the new 450R. As a matter of fact they went so far as to say there would not be any new Honda models in 04 and a new sport quad would not happen until possibly 2005. Is ATV Action out of the loop? I was wondering if Dirt Wheels or ATV Sport had anything to report.

My thoughts exactly - that oval piston BS was a poor excuse for editorial content. I'm just surprised at the number of people who ate it up.
Personally, I'd be very surprised if Honda doesn't have a quick release after the announcement. Remember the 400EX - it became available the same month it was announced.
Remember the YFZ, it became available within a month of it's announcement.
Keep in mind all the content in that magazine was likely written in stone before Honda even faxed the dealers their announcement in early August.

Magazines go to press months before you get them in the mail. So, they are always months behind. That is why the net is so cool, instant information!!

Months?? They probably have Product Evaluations, Where to Ride and mod quad articles that's been on the desk for a couple months, but all their letters, shootouts and new machine reviews are done in the month you get the book. Actually, there is a little overlap from the previous month.
I'll bet a shiny new penny the reason ATV Action or Dirt Wheels didn't release the info on the 450 is because the magazines were being pushed out the door when they got the press release.
And I'll bet another penny that the next issue will have detailed info and real pictures of the 450.

With what's available on the internet, the info in printed magazines is always pretty dated.
Here's something else funny (considering what they were saying in their latest printed issue) - on ATV Action's website:
2004 TRX450R Update

Magazines are far behind and are always way behind on Honda the mag's know nothing more than we do right now about the new Honda and won't unitl Sept 10th like everyone else.
As far as the Honda drawing about the only thing it may have in common with the actual new quad is the color red. If you look at other drawings of other quads before the were released you will notice there's not alot at all in common with them.
I do think it will be released soon after Sept 10th in the US and later in Canada though.
