I co-own an ATV shop and have experienced both machines. The Bayous we've seen have had many electrical problems, and their hardware doesn't hold up as well. Power wise there's no comparison the Recon is superior, I've driven both on tight/steep trails and the Honda is the clear winner. The Bayou is a nice little machine when they're running right, but the Honda is still well worth the money difference in my opinion.

 

If you are tight on money. Check out the Suzuki LT160. They are a not a bad bike. They are a mid size. Chain drive, electric start, look kind of sporty. My friend just paid $2650.00 for his. I rode it. Has good power. Only thing is it is short.

what kind of electrical problems exactly have you had with the Bayou??? Just wondering. I've had no problems with mine at all except for an annoying engine ticking sound. later
