04 Honda Rancher AT purchase prices and thoughts?

OK I really want to get a Rancher AT... Just seems like a great fun machine, idealy I just want 2X4 but Honda doesnt have anything above the 329 Rancher in 2X4 and I want a Honda as I hear they will run and run!
I want a nice utility thats sporty hence the Rancher and not Foreman but how fast are these? Are they real zippy off the line?
Is this too heavy to get the front wheels off the ground easily? Weight is a big reason I have been sticking away from 4X4 but its only 34 pounds heavier than the 2X4 Yamaha Big Bear 400.
Also... I know you cant sit there and just pay asking price, whats the best deal anyone has gotten on the Rancher AT so far? I want a Yellow one = )

The dealers where i live wont budge on the msrp price for the rancher AT. I was in Salt Lake a while back ad the had the AT at $5700. I dont think you will find much better than that since it is still new. If you see any better, let us know. I have seen some awesome deals for the 03 ranchers. $4300 for a rancher ES 4x4. Looks like the dealers are trying hard to get rid of the 03's to make room for the new plastic of the 04.

Tim can you get the front wheels of the ground or does the added weight of the 4X4 stop that?
I used to love popping wheelies with my old Suzuki 300 Quad Workhorse.

there are at least 3 quads in the rancher at class that are the same price or cheaper and out perform the rancher.

I have not tried popping the wheels up...but with the added weight of the 4x4 and my Warn 3.0 winch, it may not be possible. Perhaps adding some weight on the rear rack would help?
Good luck with your making your choice.

Why not name them....
Can you tell me of three quads or any other quads which have the push button shifter the Rancher has? Or will run and run like Honda's do?
The only other thing I am really looking at is the 2X4 Rancher ES.
I just fear the 329 may be a little smaller of an engine than I really want.
This is mostly for mudding and trail riding so 4X4 isnt the biggest concern of mine but it seems Honda barely makes anything not 4X4 anymore. I can kinda understand where they are coming from since it really only adds about 60 pds to the machine.

The thing that sets the Rancher AT apart from everything else in its class is the transmission. It makes the Rancher a blast to ride! Fun Factor! Shift or not to shift? Excellent engine braking. These ATV's are just plain fun to ride. Peppy, low center of gravity so they are stable, and you can get one in Honda Red (or Honda Yellow). It is the only 400 you can get a "fully automatic 5-speed manual trans". They have a very light, sporty feel to them. Look at the 4-wd as a bonus.
