Default 400ex replaced

I hope this hasn't already been mentioned, but to me, the 400ex is pretty much a useless machine once the 450r is available. The 400ex was Honda's performance quad and how can it perform against the 450r and YFZ? It can't compete with the raptors or DS for that matter. With aftermarket parts for the 450r, the 400ex will simply not be able to compete. There are a few things that could happen though.

The first thing that could happen is that Honda will stop producing 400ex's altogether and keep their 250ex, 300ex and 450r.
The 2nd thing that could happen is that Honda will stop producing the 300ex and put a reverse gear into the 400ex
The third thing that could happen is that Honda will just go ahead and put a reverse gear into the 400ex without stopping production of anything.
The 4th thing, which would seem unlikely to me is that Honda will remain unchanged.

Can you explain why you feel that way?

After waiting the last 2 years for Honda to come out with the 450R and all of the rumor about what it had. don't waist your time trying to out figure out Honda is going to do.

what i hope happens is they drop the 300, keep the 400 add reverse, keep the 450r and make a killer 650 to compete with the raptor, bomb, and that big kawi

This topic has been done a bunch of times!! The 400 will always be Hondas bread and butter bike. Dealers are discounting it heavily, so it is a real good deal and a great ride for an entry level performance rider. The 450 is a pretty good jump in price, so without the 400, there would be a big gap in the lineup.

My dealer expects the 300 to be discontinued at some time in the future. It is getting old, and overlaps with the 250EX and 400EX.

Yes, that sounds like a good idea. If people keep begging honda for a 650 race quad like we begged for the 450r, we might get it in ten years. seriously though, people wanted the 450r badly, we got it, now for a 650ex!
