Default 400ex cooling?

I just got back from a weekend down at Sand Lake in Oregon... ahhh, what a blast! perfect weather and everything... but to the subject i go...

i've got an '03 400ex with FMF megamax pipe, K&N w/ no airbox lid and am running a 165 jet. i notice pretty shortly after riding some pretty good sized power losses. so i'm trying to see what you guys have done, what works what doesnt for keeping it cool or cooling it back down quicker. This was my first weekend riding with the new parts and wow... what a difference it made on it!! i was pulling on Z's all weekend it was great. but thanks for the help

Buy air scoops and if you want to spend big money buy an aftermarket oil reservoir that will hold more oil.

that link is a rip off!!! i got my airscoops for $29 off of ebay on a "buy it now" price! and air scoops DON"T work, only if your doing about 50mph then they help very little. its mostly cosmetic.

I am not sure on the placement but if your not muddin you could rig up a small 12v electric fan to blow air across the fins.

I rigged one up for my 300 4 x 4 and it keeps the motor cool and blows the hot air out and away so it doesn't rise up to me on the slow going when pulling the bushhog mower.

We run two oil coolers to lower the oil temp. 50*,feeding the cool oil back in to the head to get the best use of the cold oil.

mickey,

How are you running two oil coolers? Are you using two stock ones, or aftermarket? More information please.

Thanks

a 165 main with no lid is lean at sand lake take it up a size or 2 and it'll most likly run cooler. We run 3 400ex's with pipes and 170 mains and they stay cool enough at sand lake.
