Holeshot XCT's for 400ex
#11
Santa,
The rear XCT's actually seem more stable than the stock tires as they have a wider and "flatter" footprint. They also slide nicely in the corners. Don't know what the XCT fronts will do yet, but I have heard that they keep their track better than the stock fronts as they won't tend to push over on the sidewall in hard cornering.
As for the Big Gun, please read the previous post "Big Gun is Best" dated 6/1. I like the Big Gun, but everyone seems to have their own preferences and thoughts when it comes to pipes. I wish that there was another definitive run of dyno tests available for all of the 400ex pipes, besides the old one done by GT Thunder. GT said the Big Gun actually lost HP, but Dirt Wheels said their dyno showed 4-7 HP gains with the Big Gun. Who is correct? All I can say is that the Big Gun added performance to my bike.
I'll let you all know how the Razor comparision goes.

No real problems other than the 20" stock rear tire diameter did not provide adequate swingarm ground clearance for desert riding. The rocks were beating my swingarm guard to pieces. The taller XCT's cured 95% of the "hits" on my swingarm. Also, the stock tires did not provide the traction that the XCT's have for hill climbing, loose pack, and sand. I personally do not believe a 2 ply tire is the "perfect" tire for the desert. Too many sharp rocks and thorns for a 2 ply to survive very long.

I run them on all 4 corners. I also run the stock gearing, but the extra cc's help alot. The fronts corner precisly and the rear grip great. My only complaint is when I reach 55 mph until about 65 the rears vibrate a little. But this isnt a real problem and any tire that weighs that much probably should be balanced.

The stock tires are trash for the woods! After a week I got a large hole in one of the fronts and pluged it then I got another larger hole in the side and 3 plugs wouldn't stay in it so I got rid of them same for the backs after 3 months. I have 23" XCT's up front and 20" XC's in the back and really like that. XC's up push really bad in real slick mud and I think the 22" XCT's are a little to tall.
