I bought a 400ex a couple months ago and am looking for some good mods to increase hp. What kind of carb would perform best with the 400 and maybe some different cams too? Or any other mods. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A Keihin FCR 39, 40, or 41. The bigger the more top end the less bottom. It seems like most guys go for the 39 or rhte 40, I have the 39. I got it from Curtis Sparks Racing. I run the thumb throttle on it. The Hot Cams are getting some bad reviews by a few people, an old design. I have one and have zero problems with it. I have the stgage 2. With a Hot cam you don;t need to harden the rocker arms($250), you do with most cams. There is a thread called "440 Pros and Cons". Thanks for the info. I want to make sure I do the research on the parts and who I get them from. I had a bad experience from the place I purchased some parts for the predator.

 

If they were local and not Plaza or South Valley, don't go there either. I suggest mail order or Mountain High.

 

It was Hot Seat Performance that I had the bad experience with but they only sale polaris parts. Bad parts and poor support. Are you talking about Mountain High on Redwood? Any out-of-state places you recommend for Honda parts? Where is Curtis Sparks Racing located. Thanks.

When I bought it, it already had a 440 kit on it. I am guessing it already has a high comp piston. Or is that not common in a 440 kit?
