400EX vs Raptor vs YFZ 450 HELP
I am looking at buying a new trail buy to ride in the National Forest System. I want a good handling bike with the following characterstics:
Durable
Quick (Top end speed doesn't mean a thing to me)
Great Handling
Well balanced
Hill climbing ability
Which of the following 3 bike would you go with and why? 400EX, Raptor and YFZ 450

400ex is ur clear choice, u want durability? u know yamaha doesnt come with that standard, its not even an option. The YFZ is an mx machine its not meant for trails so thats out. The raptor is to tall and narrow=not a good combination for speed and cornering imo. The EX is very well balanced, excellent handling, and is quick if u know how to ride it.

I'd say go with a Z or KFX. I say this because they are newer than the 400ex, handle better, have more power, and don't cost to hella of a lot. The Rappy will be to much power for the type of riding your doing and the YFZ is alot of money and technology for just cruisin around in a forest but if you don't care AT ALL about money then get a YFZ.

Hey wolveriner, Try the 14t front sprocket. A friend of mine rides a Raptor. All we do is trail ride and he does just fine with it's tallness. Buy one if you like it. They are a lot more money though

The YFZ handles FAAAARRRRR better than anything else out there, and won't throw you over backwards on the steep hills. Unless you absolutely must have reverse, or you don't have the $$$$, the YFZ is the only choice. The shocks are completely adjustable for all you people that thinks it's stiff. a spanner wrench and a flathead screwdriver changes it to anything you want. As for reliability, the ex would be good as long as you don't ride hard. If you like to go fast, be prepared to replace the junk swingarm and gusset up the crappy frame as well. If money is an issue, the Z is a good choice, and the raptor as well. The raptor will need a little $$ in suspension though to get rid of the tippyness.
