Rincon - Noisy motor??
#1
Hi,
I have a Rincon and did about 2000 miles on it. One thing that annoyes me is the noise of the motor, coming from the left side of the motor. It sounds like the valves are clicking, but when you get closer to the motor, you hear that the noise comes from the bottom front end of the motor. Did any of you guys hear that noise? Is there a way to adjust it? It sounds like maybe the push-rods are making that noise...
Please let me know soon!

The Rincon makes a little more noise engine wise compared to some other brands however if your hearing clicking or tapping that is not normal, sounds like you need to have your valve clearance adjusted. If you followed the Honda service recommendations you should have done this at the first 100 miles or 20 hours I believe then again at 600 miles or 100 hours. Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. They adjusted the valve clearance at the dealer, but it is still the same. When you use the "trick" the old mechanics do to hear where the noise is from, by putting a screwdriver to your ear and the other end of it on the motor, it is then really obvious the clicking is coming from the front end of the motor, not from the valves. This motor has push rods, right? So I wonder if those are the ones making that clicking noise... and if there is an adjustment for that...
Thanks!

Yes they do use pushrods in these engines, you may very well have a bent push rod or something similar. I hope you don't cause this could be costly. I haven't heard of any Rincon that exhibits this problem, Honda's are very well built and I would certainly be surprised if this were the case, however machine are built by man so anything is possible.
Other possibilities of your noise (from the Honda manual) could be:
Incorrect valve clearance
Sticking valve or broken valve seat
Excessively worn valve seat
Worn or damaged camshaft
Worn rocker arm and or shaft
Worn rocker arm follower or valve stem end
Worn or damaged push rod and or cam follower
Worn cam chain
Worn or damaged cam chain tensioner
Worn cam sprocket teeth
Cylinder/ Piston problem
Good luck on whatever it is, keep us posted ! Cheers !

Hi,
Thanks again for your reply. Looks like you know your stuff way more than me.
It would be odd for something broken or worn out, cause it did this noise when they first started it at the dealer... So I guess it is the noise the Rincon is suppose to do.. It just annoyes me a bit, I wish it could sound smooth like those 4 cylinder motors Honda has on its road bikes...
By the way I called Honda yesterday about the stalling problem the Rincon has, when you have it full trottle in the mud and then release the trottle, to put it in reverse, for example, and the motor stalls... The guy told me it is because the transmission does not disengage fast enough so it stalls the motor... This is not correct, does not make sense. Why don't the other atvs don't do that? They should find a solution.. Anyway, that Rincon tech support guy was really an a*(&*(^&* guy, really arrogant... I guess after you buy the thing, you are alone after that...

I have a 01' rubicon that has odd engine nosie as well, mine is more of a deep muffled knock herd on every powerstroke. I have herd other rubicons and such with the same sound. I passed mine off as a case of the "thumper" where big bore engines tend to thump themselves to death as my old XR600R wore out the engine case to where the main berrings were no longer held tightly.
My rubicon also stalls if Im spinning the tires hardcore on snow/ice then let off the throttle, if i keep it at 1/4 throttle for a second then it doesnt stall- just enguages the de-comp system and kinda chugs back to life.
