I dont know about easily beating a griz. I think AC has a good reputation for mud performance as well though. Everyone has thier own ideas on the subject. And the rider makes alot of the difference. I saw a 450 honda without a lift go through a hole two Polaris with 18 inches of ground clearance didnt make it through. And that was after the Polaris' had wallowed it out. Just get what you like, and mod the heck out of it.

I have a 660 Grizzly and have rode a prarie 700 also. The one thing you will like better about the grizzly is the rear suspension. Although that VTwin pumps the power, the tires need to be on the ground to grab. If you wait until next year there are rumours that Kawasaki is putting independant rear suspension on the prarie which will make it grab like a MFer. They both have about the same functionality as far as I have seen. I did not ride the Prarie in the mudd or on hills but the overall speed and quickness was not far apart. A Utility quad wasn't really intended to be fast or that quick. I would suggest talking to some people who have riden them both from your age group. I have noticed many people here giving some really misleading info because of personal opinions. If you talk to people your age you will at least know what to expect from the machine. I am 34 and I like to ride steep hills and deep mudd when possible. My father 57 likes the Grizzly because of its functionality such as the size of the racks, different mods you can buy for it and the differential locking 4 wheel drive, also he has a trailer for it. He uses it to hunt, work on his land and takes his grandchildren on rides around the house. So you can see just asking the question of the best utility out there is not so easy to answer. I hope you find what you are looking for and can read through the BS.

That last post reminded me: AC just came out with a quad using the Prairie 650 engine with an IRS suspension.

The 04's are 700s. The same motors that they use in the VFORCE. The Vtwin sounds and runs nice. I think the only issue they had with them so far is the oil lines blowing out and burning up some motors. The 05's are supposed to have IRS so says ATV TV and some Magazines. I would wait if you have the time to decide ona quad. I think they will be nice. Here are the specs on the 04's

I seen the new Rincon with the GPS a couple of weeks ago. The rear independant suspension is awesome for rough terrain and the GPS is good for staying safe. My neighbor owns a rancher 450 and a 300ex. I don't know many people who can complain about honda products. THey have a reliability that no other can match. If you are looking for brute force you will have to dump some money into it. But look at it this way not many people keep their quads stock because of all the mods out there you can build your own beast. Good luck again with your quest for the answer.
