Rubicon or Recon
#1
I'm looking to buy a 2000-2002 Honda and am mostly interested in the Rubicon or the Recon. Can anyone tell me what are the differences in these two quads. I'm not looking to race one or go mudding, mostly just riding on our gravel road and up a HUGE hill behind our house and in the pasture. I don't want a speed demon one and also don't want one with no power. Do I really need a 4-wheel drive if I'm not gonna be mudding? Also, what is considered to be decent mileage and hours on these. Is is possible to by one for around $3000-3500 and it not be a piece of junk? I would really appreciate some opinions on these as I'm hoping to buy one in the next couple month. Thanks.

You could buy a new Recon in the $3000. to $3500. range. These two models have very few similarities. (The motors are sideways and the switches are similar.) The Recon is a 250 and the Rubi is a 500. The Recon is 2 wheel drive and the Rubi is a fulltime 4x4. You really need to determine what your needs are and how much you want to spend. It is going to be hard to tell how many hours or miles are on the Recon because of no gauges. The Rubi does have gauges and a speedo. Are you sure you didn't mean Rincon?

Or, get the in between bike, the Rancher (not to big and not to small)! If you want to go cheap get the foot shift 350 model (like the Recon), or the automatic 400 AT (like the Rubicon). 2X4, 4X4, or selectable (the best of both worlds).
