Default 2001 Honda Rubicon running rough

Hi everyone.
I am new to this forum.
Can anyone help me with a Honda Rubicon problem?
2001 Honda Rubicon, 167 miles.
My Rubicon has always been hard starting. It has been back to the dealer two times since new and it still starts hard. Now for some reason after it does start is runs pretty rough. I have been around ATV's for a few years and also worked on them. I just feel like I should not have do mess with a machine that is this new and has only 167 miles on it.
I guess I will have to buy a Service Manual.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It has a carb heater on it. Turn the key on and let it sit a few min before hitting the starter.

With that few miles, I am guessing the gas gets old from sitting. When the gas sits, the lighter fractions evaporate leaving the less volitile fractions which don't vaporize as well. Also, as the gas evaporates, it leaves varnish which plugs the carb.

Whenever you have old gas in the ATV, drain it out and put it in your truck. Put fresh gas in the ATV, always brand name (Porsche recommends Chevron). For the next few tanks, add extra fuel line/carb cleaner to your gas to help rid your carb of varnish.

I second Hondabige about the carb heater.. It only takes a minute or two to get the carb warm, and it works.

I also think the gas might have went bad, that wouldn't happen if it was rode and you put new gas in every now and then. I would aslo look at the plug and stuff. I think the choke stikking has a lot to do with mudding so I wouldn't worry about that much since there is like no miles on the bike, it's not even broke in yet.

Every now and then? Gas is a volitile hydrocarbon.

Change the plug and drain all gas including carb bowls, valves should be adjusted if they havent been since you bought it.

My 2001 Rubicon did the same thing. Try pressing down on the choke to see if it runs better. It if does, there is an adjustment nut on the choke lever. MY choke lever wasn't staying all the way down. I tightened the nut and the problem was solved.
