Horsepower means nothing. Torque is what makes it go, now which one makes more torque?
From my calculations using the torque-hp formula backwards, the 450R has 30.30 ft-lbs at it's max hp RPM.
The YZ450F makes 28.59 ft-lbs at its max hp RPM. now if anyones wants to go all the way through it and find their max torque go ahead, but thats alot of work

Ok I'm bored so here goes. torque in ft-lbs
RPMS----------450R----------YZ450F
4000----------22.9-----------21.6
5000----------26.26----------26.57
6000----------31.33----------31.94
7000----------31.88----------33.38
8000----------31.18----------31.38
9000----------27.13----------28.59
10000---------23.63----------24.68
11000---------20.91----------21.48
these were using rough estimates of how much HP they were making at the specified rpm, since it doesnt show an exact number.
The torque to horsepower equation is {torque x rpm / 5252 = horsepower} which I used backwards for this to get the torque from the horsepower numbers {horsepower x 5252 / rpm = torque}

I really like the fact that the more 'conventional' Honda engine can almost achieve the power of the 'radical' Yamaha engine. Honda has prided itself in 'making the most with less', either in its automotive or motorcycle division. The crf450 is no exception as it remains a true competitor despite its 'significantly lacking' motor.
