Alright, how to explain this.

Ok, if I'm going along and hit my front brakes on my 300 4x4 they will lock up too easy. You can pull the handle back slowly and mantain some sort of control, but in a situation were you are going pretty quick on a trail they are almost useless because you have to pull the handle so slow to keep from locking the brakes. What would be causing the brakes to lock so easy? I've tried to see if its one brake grabbing before the other, and had no luck. You think adjusting them down would help? If so, what would make them get so tight in the first place?

If your brakes are grabbing, chances are there is some grease or other foreign substance (e.g., mud, crud) on the linings and interior drum surface. Diassembly and a good cleaning with a non-residue brake cleaner might help. Your final goal: dry, clean, linings and drum.

If the brakes are locking and won't release, you probably need new thicker brake shoes, assuming the hub interior is reasonably clean and no cable is frozen or sticking, and the brake springs are in good shape.

Good luck.

Ok, thanks for the info here.

I don't think I have any of those problems. I've already pulled the hubs off, cleaned them, checked the brake lining, and all that kinda stuff. They brakes aren't locking and sticking at all, they just kind of grab real hard, real quick. I'll get some cleaner today, and clean up everything again, and check the springs. I wouldn't ask many questions on this stuff, but I've not ever had to do much with four-wheeler brakes, a lot of car brake changes, but no four-wheeler.
You'll have to excuse my lack of grammar and english skills on here, its to early this morning, and it was to late last night when I wrote the other post. I know how to work on all this stuff so you can write the replies pretty technical and I'll understand.
Thanks for the help.
