hey KDXryder200,that kid at your school is full of it. 250ex are one of the worst bikes honda makes.they make things like suzuki LT80s look good.wow,i can belive he has the guts to say it can smoke 250Rs.that kid is wacked! i tell u what, challenge him to a pink race,if u win,u get his bike, and if he wins he gets your bike.then see if he still thinks his pice of crap 250ex can beat u.

Roosthrower....while I agree in general, and in principal, there was actually a "modded" 250X (note, not ex) that beat a lot of 250r's, Banshee's etc. "back in the day".

Travis Spader's 250X, carried a 250X block in a modded 250X frame, but with a 350X head and cyl, mounted to the specially drilled and welded block (410 cc I believe) all done by Tom Carlson to mount same(was a custom built TC motor), and a couple of suspension changes.........This bike was the first 4 stroke to actually win a National race....(TT)

For those who do not know who TC is....Tom Carlson built Doug Gust's Susuki 449cc motor from a bike motor the first year Gust won the national championship on a Susuki..It was these mods that became the platform for the new Susuki 450 quad motor(though far from identical), and the "factory" motors supplied and modded by Yoshi. On many of the "factory pictures with all the big wigs from Susuki and Yoshi, Tom Carlson could be seen hanging around in the background.....the credit was never publically given to him of course.

A few years ago we raced a pair of TC prepared 350X motors in 250X frames, which beat almost all the Banshees and 250r's it faced, both in MC and in flat track.....and most Cannondales and 400 ex's, ....of course not all of them, but we are not talking stock anything here either.

MDE that was funny.

not to mention it will smoke Banshees and 250rs when it is up graded
I've ridden a banshee and a 250EX, There is no way that 250 four stroke single can touch that 350 two stroke twin... Unless the banshee is running on one cylinder and my grandmother is riding it.

True if you dump some cash into the 250EX with pipe, jets, sprockets, piston, etc, then it will get faster (though I still have a hard time thinking it will beat a banshee), but do the same to the other bikes and you're right back where you started, eating dust for lunch. Tasty. Just buy a 400, or better yet a v-force, and be done with it if you're so worried about speed.
ok...um, i also have a 05 z250 as far as speed i wouldnt worry about it so much. they are fun little bikes to ride and you can throw them around. as far as the buying a V-FORCE.....i dont know about all that.....if you had that then you would get picked on horribly...by guys with 4x4 utility's. that cant be any fun. at least the people dont look very happy.

hey MDE3,you are about stupid.we had a 250X and we have a 1986 250R(ATV)and the 250R blew the 250X off the road and im not exagerating.we made that 250X look like a 50.dont get me wrong the 250X is a good bike but the only way it can beat a banshee or a 250R.

Not sure this dignifies a reply.....However...my articulate friend........Do you know who Travis Spader is? or have you ever heard of Tom Carlson?.... Because of your age, I can understand your consternation (now you have an english lesson built in to this post....) at this information.

However the statement was made that "there is simply no way a fully hopped up, air cooled overhead valve 250 cc motor can beat a liquid cooled 2 stroke 250r or Banshee".....hence my post above. We are not describing your run of the mill trail riding equipment here...these are pure, fully modded pro level race bikes now.... Depends who's doing the "hopping up".

Secondly, I did make a mistake when I described the motor above, so thanks for giving me the chance to correct this.........

The changes made were to the head and cylinder assembly, not just the head as I said earlier. This cyl. was bored out to become a 410 cc motor, not 310 cc's. The purpose of this conversion was to reduce the rotating mass attached to the piston assembly...resulting in a whole lot of net hp. at a rev limit close to 11,000 rpm's.

Have you any idea what one of the top two engine makers (4 stroke) in the country can accomplish with 410 cc's of ported, cammed, and lightened motor....170 hp/liter is within their grasp....How's your math? I realize that this is no longer a pure 250X motor, but it is in fact a "modded" 250 x motor.../hence the claim.

As to whether a even modiefied 250X bike with a regular "National" built TC 350X motor can beat Banshees, or 250r's, I assure you they could and did on multiple occasions.....In fact the only bikes that were seriously faster than our modified 250X'/350X TT conversion in NE Pa, were Dustin Wimmer's Factory converted Yamaha, with a 426/449 cc YZ motor (a couple of years before they became the standard motors in the 450 Yamaha YZR 450's) and Sue Parker's factory modified Banshee, which even beat Dustin Wimmer's 426.

There were a couple of seriously worked Honda 440 ex's and some Yamaha 660's jacked to 720 cc's which were slightly but barely faster...but that was it. And the Banshee's and 250r's we raced against and beat were not exactly stock either....just not in the same class of mods these motors had done to them. Even the worked Cannondales (if you even know what Cannondales were)...were slower.

So before you decide that someone is "stupid" do a little more reading and browse up on your history..because unlike you..time has given me the chance to see a few more things....

for some reason i dont remember that. and why would they race it against a shee on MX, thats just unheard of

Actually we raced 250X/350X conversions on a fully race prepped 250X frame in MX racing...and beat Banshees and 250r's with great regularity...(I think the only thing that remained stock was the wheel hubs)

I remember when my son was practicing MX one day and there were a bunch of new z 400's at the track, some with Yoshi pipes, and he was feeling like he was riding on pretty "used up stuff" with his old 250X/350X conversion....until somebody let him ride their new piped z400....He came back with a face that said "damn" I never realized what my bike was like until I tried one of the new "stock" units.....no comparison....The same day a kid had a prepped Banshee and was trying to follow my son on his 250X...ended up casing the bike trying to jump the triple.....trashed it seriously....

The point is if you spend the money, you can make almost any of these bikes competitive for racing....speed costs money....it's just how much do you want to spend.....Now with what is available in stock form out there, it is a lot cheaper to start from stock than it used to be to end up with a truly race ready conversion.

Yeah now I remember why I stopped visiting this site. Everyone is an expert like this fool...my favorite "sprockets" on the 250EX...which sprockets would those be ? last time i checked it was shaft drive. ? This site has gone to hell, nothing but "which is faster" and a bunch of expert/idiot opinions. This is sad.
