first service
#1
I just bought a 04 350 Rancher ES. I love my quad and I want it to last awhile. The place I bought it seems to think I need them to give it the first service for warranty reasons. Then again I hear that if I just keep the receipt and do it myself I will still have the warranty. Can anyone help me out on this and tell me what I would need for the first service, obviously I need oil and oil filter but what else. Thanks for all the help.

Zipper-As far as the warranty I don't know if the dealer has to do the service or not. When I took my foreman in for the 1st service they changed the oil and filter, checked it over and adjusted the valves. I plan on doing the oil changes myselfe but for the valves I took it in. I have heard some people talk about doing the valves themselves but I don't know how.

No, the dealer does not need to do the service to maintain your warranty. The following items are what Honda recommends for the initial (first) service, which is due at 100 miles or 150 km, or 20 hours. Which ever comes first.
1. Inspect valve clearance
2. Replace oil
3. Replace oil filter
4. Inspect idle speed
5. Inspect brake system
6. Inspect reverse lock system (ES)
7. Inspect clutch system
8. Inspect nuts, bolts, and fasteners
9. Inspect wheels and tires
Keep your recipes and write down your mileage and hours. A vanilla folder works great.
