Is it true that with a hot cam (either stage) its harder to start? If so how much harder?

Not one bit. I've never heard that before. You might have gotten that mixed up with a high rev CDI box, which, in some cases makes the quad almost impossible to start when the temps start dropping.

I dont know anything about a "hot cam," but i can tell you that the XR400 WebCam I put in (450/451 grind), along with my other mods below, turned my EX into a drag speed king. Sand, pavement, dirt drags i could take 426's, 430's, 440's, DS650s, Raptors, 250's....at least until the very top of 5th on the fastest quads (DS650 and Raptors).

Instead of a Rev box, get a timing advance key and a 16T sprocket.

No loss of anything with a high-compression piston...as he has:416cc.

MIA is right, their is no bottom end loss with the STG 2 (with comp and cc's) MIA we used to used to use the Big web cam, but can make the same power with the Hotcam stg 2 (it's a little easier on valve train and a little more bottom)

Cool. Who makes it?

I had yet to find a heavily modded 400EX that could stay with me in drags. Think I got really lucky with the combination I had. But oh well, I sold that beast, and now im going thru withdrawls waiting for the 'R!

Do you mean a stk XR400 cam or a Web XR/EX cam?
If it's a stk XR cam then by all means, change it.

I think it is stock. So what kind of rwhp are we talking if I add the Stage 2 hot cam and a Advance Timing Key?
