Default 400ex Air cooled vs Z400 Liquid Cooled

I am still deciding which one i want. The two big things with the 400 ex that bother me are that there is no reverse and that it is air cooled. Does anyone have a problem with heat on their 400EX?

Everybody has problems with their 400ex and heat. It is air cooled. It will fade up big hills in the heat.
Not big enough problems to worry though.
Z400 is faster cold, warm or hot.

The one that I like allot that guys use is, They put reverse on the Z400 for Suzuki knew that it would not be able to do what the Honda 400ex could do.

Unless you use a 440 big bore kit you will never have heat problems.

The 2004 400EX is faster than the Z400,
The parts are cheaper than the Z400
You do not have frame problems like the Z400
Around here the 400EX is $4800.00 and the Z400 is $5600.00

As far as overheating goes with Honda air cooled engines, I don't own a 400ex. Though I do own a 300ex and have owned several XR dirtbikes and I have never had an issue with overheating.

I now own a KFX400 as my main quad and I have compared it to a friends 03 400ex and the KFX/Z is quite a bit quicker and the feel of the machine is much better. When I switch from my 300ex to the KFX it's like stepping up several classes in ride quality.

Pulling up a long dune, you can definitely feel the EX fade. For regular trail riding, it probably won't be a problem. Still, why get an old low tech engine, when you can have a more modern one for just a few dollars more???

Re-Read my post,
It does fade, particulary up hill on hot days. You are not going fast enought o move enough air across the motor.
It is not a big porblem, but I guarantee it will fade. Stock or Modified. Plus, you can buil dit to tighter tolerances w/ a liquid cooled motor.
Z's are still faster.

TahoeRider,
How can you say the 400ex which hasn't really been changed since it's debut can smoke a Z400?

And Harw
The same thing the Ex is faster than the Z? In ATVAction magazine there is a shootout between the ex and z and they rated the z better in almost every category. So please tell me where you facts are coming from.

Thanks,
Rafiki
