Default Suspension for 400ex

Hey guys, I might be changing the shocks on my 400. What would be the best set up for dunes and whoops? How much will I be looking at spending?

Good Question...
I made alot of calls and did alot of research when I bought mine. I ended up with trip. rate Works w/ rezzies. I liked them alot. I decided that the extra cash for Elka, Axis, or PEP, was not worth it for me. I donlt make a living from riding.I would rather have money in the retirement fund, ya know?
I have ridded some quads out at the dunes with those high dollar set ups, and it was nice but not double the price, nice, IMO.
I spent about $600 on the fronts. I got them direct from Works. In my opinoin, tell the you are lighter than you really are, they set them up for me way stiffer than I wanted at first, I sent them back, they fixed it and I still dropped the preoad a little. They are money now.
Are you getting arms too?

I went with TCS Tripple rates without rezzies for play riding and had them re-valve the rear to match and my friends can't believe how it reacks the whoops. At the dunes last week I could hit the whoops on sand highway at Gordons fifth gear pinned and it just floated. I did go with +3+1 TBR Products a-arms as well and I couldn't be happier. I didn't get the rezzies cause it's a play bike though I have raced it too and the shocks didn't fade. If I wanted to add Rezzies I could for @ $150 so it spreads the money out.
Ask TBR in the preferred vendors section. They have TCS and Elka and I believe Works as well.

Works are good. You will want rezzies.. You can find them on ebay for much cheaper than new. real cheap to rebuild them and easy also. local dealer can recharge. Have your rear shock rebuilt... you can do all three shocks this way for about 600 on the average..
(250 - 270) to have the rear rebuilt..

thanks guys, I wasn't planning on doing new A arms but should I? I don't want to make the bike wider then it is cause it may not fit in the back of my truck.

I love the Works shocks that are on our 400's! Eats big desert whoops for breakfast! Landing a big jump, is like landing on pillows. Steeler with cans on the front, and Ultracross on the back. See their web site for prices. A lot of dealers will give you a price break.

your in luck. I just talked to a guy yesterday while out four wheeling about front shocks. He was a big guy. And he used to race it. He has works on the front. He said they are better than elkas. He said axis is better. But best for the buck he said WORKS. If you can picture a 325 pd man jumping 20 feet with out bottoming out. You do the calculations

Does anyone know if the stock shocks on the 450r will fit a 400ex? I'm thinking maybe when I get the new bike I can upgrade its shocks and put the stockers on the ex.
