I dunno about that, I have taken my scram in some deep stuff and the belt never slips at all.. I am not saying this cause i own a polaris, if the belt sliped i would not have it right now it would be gone!!! If the belt drive was so bad then why would some car companys be putting it on their cars. I think a few of them are going to CVT I cant remember whitch companys and models....
The 4wd that polaris has is the best i have yet to get stuck in anything!!!

Polaris does make a 4x4 system

Early belt systems had lots of trouble, now they pretty much have it mastered and none of the major manufacturers have belt slippage problems very often at all. I believe they all have a vent somewhere and as long as you don't get above that level you have no trouble. On a brand new machine it is very unlikely that you will slip your belt.

And now for the Honda BS. That little 329 cc Honda Rancher will out run a SP 400 and comes out better over-all in every shootout the two have ever been in and SP 400 comes out on the bottom. If you were to consider one, again spend the extra and get the SP 500. But that was not one of your choices so we wont make a fuss over it.

Our 02 Rancher 4x4 ES has been very dependable with zero problems, but it only has 1100 miles so far. It is fun to ride and is very a capable ATV. It may not be the king of mud, but out of your three choices I do think it will hold it's own.

The Honda Rancher is the best selling sport/utility ATV out there and there has to be a reason. I think riding one you will be able to see why.

I have owned Yamaha,Polaris and Honda. I ride alot of trails spend quite a bit of that time in the mud also.
The yamaha was a tough one but that was several years ago however some of my buddies have them and they do well. the polaris i had was a 98 500 xplorer and was a good machine for about a year after that it ate my lunch in parts. mainly cv shafts, wheel bearings and belts. in any deep water or thick mud it will slip and thats true for the guys that ride with me also. today one of them had to be pulled home 12 miles and he has a clutch kit. I recently purchased a honda and so far like it the tossup for me was between it or yamaha and the reason i chose honda is i believe it is the best trail machine on the market and I HATE BELTS BECAUSE I HAD ONE!!

I also got to thinking that the full time 4 wheel drive on the rancher would rob the machine of some power but its got a diff up front so you could really call it 3 wheel drive and on the bruin its got the selector for 2 and 4 wheel drive(im guessing that the bruin has also got a diff up front also)and i was looking around and people have said that the bruin is a heavy 350 and i looked at the ranchers weight and its only 14 pounds lighter and they were also saying that the rancher is got better stopping and acceleration, but like i said i should probably test drive them both. im sorry about all the questions but i would like to get and idea of a riders opinion (not some guy at a dealership thats waiting for his paycheck. ) before i go out and drop 5 grand on an atv.

Hi, I just bought a new bruin 4x4. I looked at the rancher 350 and the bruin 350. I liked the looks of the rancher better then the bruin. What made me go to the bruin was the supension and that I could switch from 2wd to 4wd with the push of my thumb. If you are planing on doing any 2 up riding your girl friend or wife will enjoy the supension on the bruin. It's no fun having them bitch after going over bumps. Shifting is fun, but on a long runs it gets tiresome and that makes the auto nice on the bruin. I stayed in the 350 range, because it was what I could afford. So far I am completely satisfied with my decision. There are many good machines out there and I hope you find the one that is best suited for you. Have a good ride.
