250ex vs bayou 220
#4
I have a Bayou 220 my daughter rides, most of the time, but I ride too.
There are 2 250Exs with a few miles of my house. I have dragged them
both on a 4000 foot grass airstrip, and the Bayou won everytime in a 100
yard race by 3-4 lengths and the 250s won everytime in a 300 yard race by
the same. The Bayou accelerates faster, the 250 has a higher top speed.
After all the 250 EX is just a Recon in sports dress. It has the same detuned
longitudinal engine as my Rancher, just 100 ccs smaller. The Bayou puts out 17 bhp,
the 250 is 14.
In the woods they are very closely matched. The EX handles a bit better
due to it's lighter weight and sportier suspension. The better accel of the
Bayou makes up for it. We swapped rides once and the EX owner was amazed.
I should also point out I am 50-60 pounds heavier than either of the EX riders,
and 25-30 years older LOL. Given equal riders, the Bayou would have won all,
I feel sure.

The Bayou is 215cc, overhead cam. The 250EX is 229 cc overhead valve.
The Bayou has a 9.3 to 1 compression ratio, the 250EX is 8.8 to 1
THe Bayou is rated 17 bhp at 7500 rpm, the 250EX is 14 bhp at 5500
THe Bayou has a 24 mm carb, the 250EX a 22 mm.
Not to hard to understand, because the Bayou has a HIGHER REVING engine
of more hp.
The 250EX is alot more utility quad than sport quad. Take the racks off the Bayou
and put a better suspension under it and it would be more sporty than the 250EX
by a long shot.
I have presented you with the facts and the results of drag racing and running side
by side with them thru woods and fields. Believe it or not, that is your perogative.

The 17 hp for the Bayou comes from Kawasaki. They published it for the 2000 model.
Engine bhp.
The hp for the 250EX comes from ATV Rider magazine, which did a dyno on the engine
a while back in a before and after mods test.
That was engine bhp too, BTW, not rear wheel horsepower.
smity, I have no idea if a 250EX can beat a z250. If it can then my Bayou can beat one
with ease. It is possible your brothers Bayou is just a dog, you know. And what years is
it? After 2000 they detuned them a bit, and quit publishing hp ratings.
You will note I am saying MY Bayou beat two 250EXs, not that ALL Bayous can beat
EVERY 250EX out there. Just my own experience.
Mine is stock, no mods of any kind. But it will pull wheelies in first and second
without even pulling back on the handle bars. Both 250s were stock, too.

for some reason i find it hard to beleive the bayou 220 has more horsepower than my 300ex which has 16 stock at the wheels. I even find that number hard to beleive for a bayou 250. Im not doughting you, but could you explain how it has more HP than a 300ex.
