Default ATV Sport Buyers Guide, Dises the TRX450R

Anybody else notice in the ATV Sport Buyers Guide, that the YFZ gets 5 red dots (the highest possible in their rating system) in every category: MX, Trail, Woods, Dunes, and Desert. They give the TRX 5 dots for Trail, Woods, and Dunes, but only 4 dots for MX and desert. And it wasn't hard to notice that there were no Honda ads in this issue!

I trail rode a friends YFZ for a couple of hours. That thing is ONE MISERABLE TRAIL RIDE!! Stiff suspension, and a powerband that sure isn't made for trails. I would give it a generous 2 dot in that category. I was glad to get off that thing and back onto the 400EX.

The MX category doesn't bother me, because I see the TRX as more of an all-around machine, where the YFZ is more specifically MX bred. Most "MX" bikes will never see a track anyway! Buyers who will never race (99.9% of them), just go for the MX bike idea, just like with the dirt bikes. Good marketing ploy by Yamaha!! Honda is marketing the TRX as a "RACE" bike, but not specifically an MX machine. Again, a more "all-around" machine.

So, the Baja 1000 winner only gets 4 dots for desert????? On the chassis, all the TRX is going to need for desert is to be widened to 50", some skid plates, and Holeshot XC tires on ITP Baja rims, and it is ready to go!

I saw that too, how can they rate the 450R lower than the YFZ on the MX track since nobody's had a chance to test it? Maybe they are looking at the 1" difference in suspension travel? I know how well a 400EX will handle with the right components and if the 450R handling is only a little better, it's going to upset quite a few YFZ riders.

As far as I know, ATV sport hasn't even done a test issue on the 450r has it? The 450r will not be any better or worse than the yfz i think.

That's not true, several riders were invited to Lake Whitney in Texas to ride/test the new quad a few weeks ago. In fact you will start seeing all the mags with their preview of the new Honda based on that week at Lake Whitney cause all the quad mags were there.

For the MX Track, they rated a Raptor, DS650, and a DS650 BAJA, the same as a 400EX. Funny!.

Did the 2004 400EX suddenly loose it's handling capabilities? LOL

Are you kidding me? that speaks volumes for the validity of the article... If that's the case, no need to read the article. it has to be a wash

Funny stuff all over these "unbelievable" rags.

I used to dis on dirt liars for stuff like that (printing opinion on things without testing or actually creating a fair honest comparison eg yzf V yfz etc) but it seems that atv **** isnt any better.

Sad thing was that I actually was in a pic in atv sprt but couldnt enjoy it one bit since most of the story was an absolute lie and they never seen heard or had the slightest clew what they printed.

Guess this is why the forums are becoming the place to get or share info, but even some of those are becoming swayed into biased opinions etc from advertising (take a guess which one is the worst lol )
