i have a 98 foreman 400 and need some help. ya know the front drum brakes right, well i took off the tires and the front hub was loose that whole thing the brake and every thing i tried to tighten that nut in the middle of the break but that didnt work it still wobbles around i dont know how long its been like that. im pretty sure it will get worse if i dont do anything so what should i do it just wobbles around. at first i thought the tire was loose but it was on there pretty good. PLZ HELP

 

it is probably the berrings that happened on my recon and it is a simple fix.

 

You have to replace the front wheel bearing ASAP. Relatively easy, take off that big nut pull off the drum, take the 4 bolts out of the brake backing plate and tie it up out of the way. Next, let the steering tie rod go from the hub assembly and disconnect the 2 ball joints. You have to take out the cotter pins then remove the castle nuts on the balljoints. Next get a big pry bar and put pressure downward on the lower a-arm while tapping the part of the hub assembly with a hammer to free the ball joint from the hub assembly.

The wheel bearing is in this hub assembly and has to be pressed out and new one pressed in. I highly reccommend not getting the bearing at the dealer, they are too expensive, but go to a respectable bearing shop and have them match up the number printed on the bearing with the one you need for a fraction of the cost.

I also reccommend that you replace the inner and outer dust seals at the same time. They can also be purchased at a bearing shop.

You may have noticed that your front brakes are not working the best. This is probably due to the bearing being bad and conering everything inside the drum in wheelbearing grease. Don't for get to thoroughly clean the shoes, hardware and drum before reassembly.
