Default 400ex Questions

Few questions about this quad. My friend just got one. Since its air cool does it have any problems? Like say its a hot day and your riding through sand then hit some water has anyone cracked the engine? What are some Mods that you would recommend? And any general information that there could be about it like any problems pros cons. And the top speed is about 68 ive heard right Ok thanks

its a pretty good bike even though its aircooled. most first mods include a pipe and jets. when your ready to get more power, put in a high compression piston and a more aggressive cam. after this you can pop on a larger carb. these combined will really really wake the bike up from stock. on the hot days, just don't let the bike sit there and idle. it is a well built bike. break it in and change the oil before you get too many miles on it and you will be fine. make sure you only have between 1/8 and 1/4 inches of play in the throttle cable. if you have more, adjust it tighter by the skrew that goes into the throttle housing up on the handlebars.

Another thing i would suggest is to be easy on second gear and remember to change the oil and filter!!! Thats something the previous owner of my 400ex never did, he didnt even know there was an oil filter!!! did i mention he was a half retarded alcoholic?

It's a nice quad. Easy to work on and dependable. usually the first mods are a pipe, new airfilter, remove the air box lid and re-jet. That really wakes up the quad.

after the pipe and filter you could try 416 highcompression with a hotcam, i hear they really help. As long as you maintain it it will last along time. I purchased mine last march and even though i ride with ds's and raptors i still love my 400.
