Big Bore kit for a 400ex... Installing
I got a few questions?
I bought the 89mm piston and the matching sleeve but the piston will not fit in the sleeve. It off by a very little amount. Must it be honed?
In installing this how much will the machine work be to resleeve and bore the cylinder out.
Does anyone know of any places in new jersey that does very good work for a good price?
Thanks for all the information.

yes, the sleeve will have to be bored to match the clearence of the piston. Take off your cylinder, if you havent already, and take it, along with the piston, and new sleeve to your local machine shop or dealer, and have them press out the old sleeve, bore the cylinder to allow the new sleeve to fit, then bore the sleeve to the correct clearences for the piston.

...As a side note, when u get ready to put the cylinder back in the bottom cases, make sure the sleeve is somewhat lose in the lower cases,if the sleeve is touching the cases at all, when it heats up and expands it will cause a hot spot and stick the piston. Just take an air grinder,or like?..and grind it..Most common places are were the 2 halfs meet, one side will have a high spot......And for a clutch..call Sparks, you'll never kill his..
