#1
I need some help here on a decision would you guys buy a 2004 rancher or a 400ex.
2004 rancher at=5200 otd
the ex would be used.
I ride in mud(cause that is basicaly all that is down here),crossing a creek, roads, trails, and that is about it. I want something with a little pep but also my cousin and uncle have sportsman a 400 and 700 and I will be riding with them. but my friends have sport bikes such as warriors,z400, and a couple of dirt bikes.
I just want some info on what you guys think I should get, I really need your help.

400ex!!! alot better that the rancher. it will do all the stuff you want it to do and more. it's one of the most reliable sport quads out there. awsome handling and competes quiet well in the power catergory. power can easily be improved as well. i think you would have a much better time on the 400ex. i love mine. hope this helps.

Hey i'd say the 400EX but thats just probably because i have one and am in love with it, but the EX is so powerful i dont think u would really get stuck anywhere to bad. But it all depends on what u want and what u think ur really gunna use it for but my opinion is the 400EX cuz it will go anywhere keep up with the rest and is light and powerful enough to do stupid stuff on it!

Depending on your dealer, you may be able to get a new 2004 or 2003 400ex for close to the same price as the rancher. It depends on the incentives they are offering. I would definitely go with the 400ex, shop around for the used 400EXs. The prices seem to be dropping with the anticipated release of the 450R.
As the previous posts have indicated, the 400EX is an awesome quad. It is fun to ride, has adequate power, handles great, etc.
Rightfully biased 400ex owner........

Rancher AT price is MSRP $6,199
I would be asking about the 400EX price for about $4600

My rule is, "never ride a utility anywhere you can ride a sport bike". If you can do the riding you want to do on the EX, get that. You will be way more comfortable and have way more fun! If not, you will have to go with the Rancher. The Rancher is however, mid-size and fairly sporty for a ute.
