If you have one..(a utility) then I would say let your dad get what he wants. Anyways, its his money isn't it? Ok, I would let your dad get a sport snice you have a quad already. See, you don't want to make you dad mad. Other is' hi'll be mad, and will never buy you another quad. But I have seen a 300ex in the mud...YES...I mostly go mudding, hunting, and trail ridding. But a 300ex is a fine quad, but I would not get one. I would take a free one. But in my opinion, I would have to say that you should look into a used 400ex. All the Ex's are nice, but the frame on the 300ex does not stand alot.(THEY DO, BUT NOT FOR A BIG MAN LIKE MY FRIEND) (I watch my friend ride one all the time, and he just it terin' up his frame) when I say "frame" I mean, the FRAME...the FRAME...I don't know how to explain it.
But if you decide to get a sport, then I would tell you dad a 400ex, is a lot better than a 300ex in my opnion. But 300ex's are VERY nice and would be just fine.
But if you go utility, I would say look into the RANCHER ES 4x4.. or just ES.. (but I have no clue whats you price range)
GOOD LUCK!
God Bless!

P.S. A 300ex would be fine in the mud...just sayin' I like the 400ex better...
