You'll never have a fair shoot-out until both quads have the same mods, with the motors running the same compression, same cams, and basically the same pipe. If you just run an hrc kit on the 450r and the gytr kit on the yamaha people will whine because the motor has less compression and it doesnt have a pipe, so the shoot-out will be unfair. And if you put pipes on both of the quads it still wont be fair unless you install the hrc kit and a high compression piston on the 450r, so unless you mod both quads the exact same someone will whine about the shoot-out not being fair, which I really dont disagree with. But thats just my thoughts.

Stock vs. Stock is fair.
Honda setup the R with a 10:1 piston, so it shouldn't be "fair" to swap piston's in order to even compression. Stock vs. Stock will determine the better quad. If the YFZ is faster, then so be it. If the R is faster, then it is. But stock vs. stock is only fair because when you start piping and jetting, and swapping cam's and piston's, it's not going to get any closer to fair or not fair.
The stock vs. stock race will determine the winner. JMO

I think if you did a shoot out against the 450r and the yfz , if the 450r had the hrc kit, then the yfz should only get a 100 dollar performance mod. Because the msrp of the yfz is 400 more than the r , and the hrc kit is 500 dollars, to make them equally priced the yfz should get 100 mod right. It would be nice to have a stock for stock test also.

Cam mod = Free, 60 minutes taking your time and anyone could do it.
Pull the pea shooter = Free, 75% power of a full pipe...
Jetting/needle = Less than $20.00 and another 30 minutes of your time...
Case closed, almost 50HP on tap. Has to be an all time record for "reversable" power.

This is how most will be done up for racing, who cares who wins a corked up shootout. It's MEANINGLESS. Almost as meaningless as comparring the handling of stock quads, but not quite.

Actually it's less, way less than a $100.00 for power on the YFZ.
