450r power up kit
#11
I have the power up kit also. However I havnt had a chance to install it yet, but in stock trim my 450r runs really good (beat a z400 and kfx 700). So i would hope the power up kit would only make it run better.
I would try raising the needle one click. That may help in solving the prob. of whether its pilot jetting.

I don't think I would start changing jetting settings, needle positions, etc. Check to make sure everything is installed CORRECTLY first. Check the cam timing, the jetting installation, and the needle position, to make sure it is installed per Honda's specs. Something is not right, with the HRC kit in you should be smiling like a dang fool.

118 stock jet? Can that be right? That's what it says on the HMF site as well. It justs seems very surprising. I know the HRC jet is 185.
It really sounds like something was installed wrong. I would take it back to the dealer and show them the problem. If they can't help, take it to a different dealer and get a second opinion.

118 is the stock jet. You do use a diff needle, so its not jsut from a 118 to a 185. the new needle has a diff. taper. They have it really lean from the factory to meet CA emissions regs.
I installed mine myself as soon as I got it home. All the rest of you should as well. Its easy, buy the manual, its cheaper than labor. Plus you can say you did it.
Some thing is not right. Mine has monster torque off the bottom.
The ONLY benefit from having a shop do it, si if its not right you dont have to check it, just take it back.
Other possible culprits are:
Timing, not likely, its pretty easy to get the cam timed properly, but possible.
Valve lash: You need shims to adjsut the lash, if they had no shims, ans it was off, they could have called it good ( I hope not)
Decompressor : The stock tolerance is alot less than the HRC kits. If this were set at stock settings w/ the bigger cam, it cousl possible be "decompressing" at low rpms.
All my vavles were on when I took it apart from stock, fine when I installed the cam, ans fine when I got back from my ride.
The decomp required some adjustment when I put in my cam. But it was fine after the ride.
You should take the valve cover off, buy the manual, get your feeler gauges, go from there.

Thanks adumealine, I also feel likethere is some sort of prob. If kgb has the 185 or 187 jet @ 6 to 7000' elevation & no prob then why is my dealer saying mine is to fat w/ the 185 @ 3000' He now has suggested I change the sprocket/s claiming that Honda has geared this thing for a dirt bike not an ATV
