450r power up kit

Default 450r power up kit

A friend of mine had a power up kit put on his new 450r and is having low end power loss. Anyone have this kit yet? They raised the jetting from supposedly 118 to 185 main.? With a new needle but no changes to the pilot?? Any input on this would be appreciated. The dealer says that he followed the instructions and has no other input than "I followed the instruction manual".

118 to 185? I hope you mean 181 to 185. There is know way it has a 118 main, a 300 has like a 140 something.

Sounds like the dealer doesn't know what he is soing, I would definately take it back and make them fix it right, to much money spent to have something wrong.

That sounded way off to me too. My buddy said that it kinda put the mechanic out to have to answer his questions. And he said "I did it the way the instructions said".

Hello everyone! This is Turbodog. The guilty party w/ tha problems. Thanks go out to duneaholic for getting me started. I am a new subsvcriber. I had the hop-up/competition kit installed by my dealer (Golden Suzuki-Honda) prior to excepting delivery. I was convinced by a friend in their parts dept this was the way to go. I am still not conv otherwise. Just confused why I have no power on the lower side. After conservative riding for first 1/2 day I begin to give it a good run out. All the time it felt sluggish on start-up and trying to climb hills in second or even 1st on the more loose & steep sand hills of Kermit TX. This is where Duneaholic & several other of my riding buddies spend 90 % of our riding time. OUr next trip is to Glamis, CA over Spring Break. Hope to have this ironed out prior. During a drag race w/ Banshee's, YFZ's & Z400's, I would be left behind 4 or 5 bike lengths till I could get my "R's" up. As long as I was rolling enough to compensate f/ lower end bog it was darn fast & strong. I am also surprised by the 118 to 185 main jet change but double checked it & that is exactly what it is. Who knew??? Any & all suggestions welcome. Many of my Raptur/Banshe buddies suggested it was geared way to high & to change out the front sprocket to a smaller one or better yet the rear to a larger one??????????????????????

There is definately something wrong with the kit installation, I highly recomend getting it checked out.

Is your airbox lid off? It sounds like a rich condition to me. KGB's 450 rips and he's a big dude too, so you definitely have something out of whack.

done any plug checks? do you have a off idle stumble? What exactly are the modds? Piston, cam? open air box?? ETC.

How often you ride at kermit? I make it there 6 ot 7 times a year for a few days at a time

The kit came with an airbox mod 1/2 lid. It along w/ all other components were installed per specs.??? ie cam, 185 main, new needle new snorkel but no change in the slow jet?? I would hope that Honda would build a kit that would at least work w/ itself. I am really puzzled? So far my only suggestions are to go up on the pilot jet or retooth the sprockets.

Hey there Craycraft; It's me Allen P. from Odessa. We ride there every weekend the weather will allow. When is your next trip down? Havn't seen you guys in a while. We are planning our annual pilgrimadge to Glamis this year during Spring break. The answer to your questions are above. It is a Honda Power up kit. I am not sure where the problem lies?
